Arrested at Occupy Tucson November 28, 2011CODEPINK Tucson Tucson, AZ | ||

Tucson Police are upping the ante on resistance to the Occupy Movement. My Thanksgiving arrest and transport to jail was because I refused to leave my tent in Veinte de Agosto park (where I *was* breaking a city ordinance) and walk across the park in the close-to-midnight rain to the SE corner sidewalk (where it was LEGAL to stand). I was the first to be transported to jail on behalf of the Occupy Tucson action. Last night, two more were taken in - a 70-something doctor's wife who sang a protest song to the City Council the week before and a 20-something young man. We ARE the 99%! I would have happily signed the citation on curfew violation if the officers had been kind enough to present it to me at my tent site. I pointed that out to them, but they refused to cite me at the tent despite having done so many, many times in the past. I also called their attention to the fact that I am one of the regular citation-takers, being among the ticketed when the number of citations given out were only two or four. So it was not my unwillingness to sign, as was reported, but WHERE the Tucson Police were willing to issue the citation. Great story - while I was in jail, after a sleepless night, I was able to watch an interview on the early-morning TV of Medea Benjamin representing CODEPINK!! I knew the universe was smiling on my actions when I came across that and I drew enormous strength from knowing I am not alone in this very important social movement! Thanks, everyone, for staying in touch and sharing news of YOUR actions, too!
