ORGANIZING IDEAS FOR STUDENTS |
|
|
- March is Women's History Month. Often campuses organize special themed events during this month. See if you can incorporate anti-war work and the Women's Call into your school's cultural and social events during this month.
- Organize your own event! Get campus groups together
- Put up butcher paper and invite passers by in the quad to write about the most influential women in their lives, put up large photos of inspiring women who work for peace
- Curate an art exhibit about women's work for peace or paint a mural!
- Hand out placards with the name of either an Iraqi civilian or a fallen soldier for people to wear for the whole day. Draw attention to the number of people we have lost in this war (for example, there are about 2,200 soldiers who have died, which is roughly the size of many high schools and some small universities.)
- Organize a multi-cultural event with the international students on your campus; make sure to seek out the Middle Eastern students
- Movie night-show a film that celebrates the power of women. Include our 10-minute CODEPINK video (click here to get a copy) as an inspiring way to start!
- Organize a teach-in about the situation of women in Iraq or Iraq in general. If you would like a speaker for your campus, click here.
- Encourage your teachers to teach the class about women's history, and about the current situation for women in Iraq.
- Hold a fundraiser for an Iraqi women's organization by having a house party and charging modest admission. The following organizations are in need of your support: The Organization of Women's Freedom in Iraq (OWFI), Global Fund for Women and Women to Women International.
